What will we learn during our visit?
The Interpretation Centre is presented to the visitor as a starting point to visit the unique Barrio de las Cuevas of Guadix, where the visitor has the possibility of:
1º. Discovering the History and Evolution of the Barrio de Cuevas of Guadix, so finding the answer to When, How, Who and Why this troglodyte habitat took place, through the explanation of Pedro, the previously mentioned Pick-Master of Caves.
2º. Discovering the different uses and typologies of caves of that area and also travelling to other world places which share this troglodyte heritage through its touch screens. They offer all the information and images on this matter in two languages (Spanish and English);
3º. Feeling the ways of life of these cave dwellings in a none-too-distant past, going back to the early XX century (1940s and 1950s), just before the modernity turned the Barrio de Cuevas into a modern neighbourhood. It is nowadays inhabited by more than 5000 people and it had all the services, like any other area of the city has.
Some characters carry out this goal, by reproducing the daily life of the last family that lived in one of the housings the Interpretation Centre has (the Cruz Úbeda Family, 1928-1980s), through shadows, sounds or even smells.
4º. Approaching to the traditions and handicrafts of the Barrio de Cuevas of Guadix, including the Festivity of International Tourist Interest, Cascamorras, and the traditional Guadix Pitcher or the Torico of Guadix, among others.
5º. Sharing the knowledge and the experience of the Pick-Masters of Caves and the building techniques of these unique underground housings.
6º. Being surprised by the features which makes this cave dwellings sustainable housings: temperature, thermal insulating, energy savings …
7º. Enjoying temporary exhibitions regularly organised by the Interpretation Centre to make the master craftsmen known. They keep the traditional pottery of the area live with their hands and/or they design new methods for a more environmentally-friendly artistic creation.
8º. Tourist Information Point with internet access and several interesting websites, so that the visitor will consult that required information to finish the tour.
9º. All of this is available in two languages (Spanish and English), as well as subtitling in audiovisual materials, guides in Braille, adapted access, accompaniment by a qualified person, etc.
